I HAVE A DREAM

Martin Luther King had a dream that one day his “four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” I have a dream that one day, when greatness and excellence is achieved by a minority or a person of color that it will not take precedence over the person’s greatness and achievement, and the headline won’t read “First African American, First Black Man, First Hispanic, etc.” Instead, Like Michael Pelphs and Missy Franklin, it will be headlined by name and country. I have another dream that the world will stop dropping their jaw in amazement every time a minority or child of color do the impossible, because there are millions of Gabby Douglas’s, Usain Bolt’s, and other children with the same skills, talent and gifts all over the world who can achieve the impossible if given a CHANCE. …

A chance by the powers that be to invest in the youth by providing the resources and avenues to showcase their talents and to compete effectively. A chance by their parents to invest in their overall development and extra curricular activities, rather than on fancy gadgets and name brands. And not just with money, but with time. Time to nurture, guide and encourage them on the journey. And a chance by the community to ensure that their tax dollars are being spent efficiently, to help our children reach their full potentials and bridge the gap that should have been a highway by now. I’ll continue to dream…

TO BE HUMAN

The older i get, the more i truly understand what it means to be HUMAN. And it definitely doesn’t mean to be PERFECT, it means taking responsibility of SELF! Responsibility for our thoughts and actions, and OWNING up to our shortcomings and indiscretions.

It means learning and growing from it and becoming better because of it. It means knowing how  to say, “I was wrong, i messed up, i’m sorry, please forgive me,” etc, and also knowing how to be a humble recipient when others ask for forgiveness. And no my friends, that’s not weakness, that’s strength!. It’s easier to lie, than tell the truth, and it’s easier to hold a grudge, than to forgive! When a man admit the error of his ways, humbles himself, and make changes with himself, it is not your job to be messiah! Let he without sin cast the first stone. There are too many judges and jurors in this world, when in essence we all belong on the witness stand. Unless you can speak your truth openly and honestly, don’t judge another man when he does.

Don’t let anyone hold you prisoner or hostage to your past or mistakes. Speak your truth and liberate yourself!  If you have taken responsibility of SELF, apologized, let go of your ego, made changes where necessary and asked for forgiveness, then just let go and let God. Man sees your actions, God sees your motives.  We need to embrace and understand that as humans we are inevitably flawed, but we are still beautiful. On the flip side, people who do wrong to others and continue to live in a state of denial, lie, don’t own up to their wrong doing , or continue to make excuses for their actions, will ultimately have to deal with karma. I always firmly believe that LIFE takes care of such people. What a web we weave when we practice to deceive!
